Two Koreans were shot by unidentified gunmen in the city of Lambaré, Paraguay on Friday afternoon and are currently in critical condition.

Seoul's Foreign Affairs Ministry on Sunday said the two, identified only by their last names Lee and Jung, were in a vehicle returning home from work when the gunmen shot them from motorcycles and fled the scene.

The victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital where they both remain in serious condition, suffering from several gunshot wounds.

The Korean Embassy in Paraguay expressed deep regret over the attack and called for a thorough inquiry. The ministry said local police are currently investigating the case.
