The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office has indicted Arthur Patterson, a key suspect in the murder of a Korean university student in 1997, it said Thursday.

Cho Jung-pil, then a 23-year-old Hongik University student, was violently stabbed to death in a toilet in a fast food restaurant in Itaewon, Seoul in April that year.

At the time, 18-year-old Korean-American Edward Lee was named the prime suspect and was tried, but the Supreme Court acquitted him citing insufficient evidence in September 1999.

Lee and Patterson admitted witnessing the crime but accused each other of committing it.
