A homegrown FA-50 fighter jet managed to hit a target with an air-to-surface missile for the first time, the Air Force said Thursday.

In the drill over the East Sea on Wednesday, an FA-50 fighter jet fired a guided AGM-65G missile at the target about 7 km away.

The missile uses an infrared imaging guidance system to attack warships or armored targets from up to 20 km away.
