"Jikji Simche Yojeol," the world's oldest book printed with moveable metal type, goes on display at the National Library of France for the first time in 50 years this week.
A collection of Zen Buddhist texts published by the Heungdeok Temple in 1377, the work was last shown to the public in 1973 before undergoing extensive restoration. Only the last volume survives.
Arguments over ownership continue. It was taken to France in the early 1900s but seems to have been legitimately bought rather than looted, and the library argues it would be better served by staying where it is.
"Jikji" is being shown as part of the library's exhibition on the history of printing technology from April 12 to July 16.
