The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) has introduced a special Climate Card for tourists visiting Seoul. This card enables short-term visitors to explore the city’s subway and buses at an affordable price. It is available not only to foreign tourists but also to Koreans traveling to Seoul.

The SMG announced that the Climate Card for tourists is available in four types: a 1-day ticket (5,000 won), a 2-day ticket (8,000 won), and a 3-day ticket (10,000 won). The five-day pass allows unlimited travel for 15,000 won, averaging 3,000 won per day, about the cost of two subway and bus rides. Like the existing Climate Card, which has been used for 30 days, the new card offers discounts on cultural and performance facilities, such as 50% off admission to the Seoul Science Center and Seoul Grand Park.

The Climate Card will be available starting in July. Foreign tourists can purchase the physical card at the Tourist Information Center at Seoul Tourism Plaza in Gwancheol-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, the Myeong-dong Tourist Information Center, customer safety rooms on Subway Lines 1-8, and convenience stores near the subway. Visitors can also use the physical card at charging stations on Subway Lines 1-9, Sillim Line, and Ui-Sinseol Light Rapid Transit Line, selecting the ticket type that suits their travel itinerary. Domestic tourists can use both physical and mobile cards.

Major cities, including London in England and Paris in France, offer various transportation passes for tourists. Seoul is the first city in Korea to introduce unlimited short-term transportation passes, reflecting this trend. “We will do our best to help Seoul consolidate its status as a global city of attraction,” said Yoon Jong-jang, head of Seoul’s urban transportation department.
