Incheon International Airport plans to establish a 5G specialized network and introduce self-driving robots by 2026, aiming to transform into a smart airport and reclaim its position as the world’s top airport. This tailored 5G network is designed specifically for certain industries or locations, utilizing frequencies of 4.7 GHz and 28 GHz in South Korea.
According to Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) on July 7, construction will begin this month to design and implement the 5G specialized network at Terminal 2, with plans to integrate it efficiently with the existing LTE public network over the next six months.
Upon finalizing the design, the IIAC intends to select a contractor to build the specialized 5G network. There are 19 domestic 5G network operators approved by the Ministry of Science and ICT, including Naver Cloud, LG CNS, CJ OliveNetworks, KT MOS, Hyundai AutoEver, MegazoneCloud, LG Electronics, and POSCO DX. These companies are competing to win contracts from businesses and institutions interested in deploying the 5G specialized network.
