A Korean woman and her daughter were found dead in the United States. Police have arrested her husband, an university professor, as the prime suspect on charges of first-degree murder.
According to local media such as CBS News and the Denver Post, on the morning of July. 29 (local time), Nicholas Myklebust (44), an associate in the English Department at Regis University, a private university in the Denver area of Colorado, reported to 911 that he found his wife, Kim (44), bleeding on the floor and his young daughter not breathing.
The police and fire department responded to the report, but the daughter was already deceased. Kim was transported to the hospital but also died.
Myklebust told the police that he woke up to find his wife lying face down on the bedroom floor, claiming she appeared to have fallen out of bed.
However, the police concluded that Kim’s injuries were not consistent with a fall but rather with an assault. Kim had bruises on her arms, head, torso, collarbone, and hips, as well as abrasions on both shoulders and multiple injuries to her face. The police believe these injuries were caused by blunt force trauma.
Additionally, the police found blood and bruises on Myklebust’s knuckle joints and scratch marks on his neck. They also found blood-stained gloves, which appeared to have been used to clean up blood, in the trash can.
Myklebust claimed the bruises on his knuckles were due to skin discoloration from psoriasis and that the scratches on his neck were self-inflicted while he was sleeping.
Additionally, the baby found in the bed reportedly did not have any visible injuries.
The police are investigating the exact cause of death for both victims while holding Myklebust as the prime suspect on charges of first-degree murder.
Interestingly, in 2021, Myklebust and Kim’s first child died from a skull fracture at three months old. At the time, the police did not press charges in the infant’s death.
