Seoul’s Songpa District is set to become home to the city’s largest marina, located at Jamsil Hangang Park. The marina will have the capacity to accommodate 220 vessels, including yachts. A marina is a dock or basin with moorings and supplies for pleasure boats, commonly found in regions with well-developed water leisure cultures, such as the United States and Europe.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Aug. 22 that it has recently signed an implementation agreement with the private company ‘Hangang Marina.’ The construction is slated to begin early next year, with the goal of opening in 2026.
The marina will be named ‘Jamsil Marina.’ It will feature a floating barrier that protects the marina from waves, along with mooring facilities for boats on the Han River, capable of accommodating large yachts up to 24 meters in length.
Jamsil Marina is designed to be more than just a docking space; it aims to be a multi-purpose cultural space where citizens can enjoy various activities, and at the heart of the marina, a unique floating park will be built, offering a distinctive space on the water.
A Seoul city official mentioned, ‘We plan to host a variety of performances, such as busking, with the Han River and yachts providing a picturesque backdrop. It will be a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.’ The marina will also include a clubhouse featuring restaurants and cafes, enhancing the experience for visitors.”
To ensure that even those without yachts can enjoy the marina, Jamsil Marina will offer 50 ‘Hangang Stay’ boats, which are essentially floating hotels. These yachts, measuring 11 meters in width and 13 meters in length, will be equipped with bedrooms, bathrooms, and other amenities, accommodating up to four guests. A Seoul city official expressed high hopes, stating, “We expect it to become a new hotspot for parties in Seoul.”
