Former President Moon Jae-in and his daughter, Moon Da-hye (41), who was recently booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, have reportedly accumulated at least 11 traffic fines between them for two vehicles they own.

The Hyundai Casper vehicle that Moon Da-hye drove in a drunken state on Oct. 5 in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, was found to have two outstanding parking fines. This particular vehicle is the first model produced through the “Gwangju Job Project” and was purchased by former President Moon in Oct. 2021.

At the time, the Blue House stated that the car was purchased for his personal use and that he planned to continue using it after leaving office. According to the vehicle registration, the Casper had received a parking violation fine in June last year while still under Moon Jae-in’s ownership and was subsequently seized in November due to unpaid fines.

After the vehicle’s ownership was transferred to Moon Da-hye in April this year, the car was again subject to a substitute seizure order in August for unpaid fines incurred in Jeju.

Before driving the Casper, Moon Da-hye had been using a Sorento vehicle, which was also subject to at least nine fines and seizure orders. The Sorento was originally registered under Moon Jae-in’s name until May 2022, when the title was transferred to Moon Da-hye, only to be transferred back to the former president in April this year.

Meanwhile, on the evening of Oct. 4, Moon Da-hye parked her vehicle on a side road near a construction site in Itaewon at 6:57 p.m. and returned to it at around 2:17 a.m. the next morning.

Approximately 34 minutes later, at 2:51 a.m., she collided with a taxi while changing lanes near the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon. A breathalyzer test administered by police, who responded to the taxi driver’s report, revealed that Moon’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.149%, well above the 0.08% threshold for license revocation. The police are currently coordinating a summons with Moon Da-hye regarding the incident.
