On Dec. 6, three senior military commanders were relieved of their duties following their alleged involvement in President Yoon Suk-yeol’s emergency martial law declaration on Dec. 3.

The Ministry of National Defense announced on the afternoon of December 6, “In response to the current situation, we have reassigned key senior officers, including Lieutenant General Lee Jin-woo, Lieutenant General Kwak Jong-geun, and Lieutenant General Yeo In-hyung, to separate postings to suspend their official duties.”

The ministry further stated, “Lieutenant General Lee has been reassigned to the Ground Operations Command, Lieutenant General Kwak to the Capital Corps, and Lieutenant General Yeo to the Ministry of National Defense, where they will remain on standby.”

In addition, the ministry announced the appointments of acting commanders for the vacated posts: Lieutenant General Kim Ho-bok as Acting Commander of the Capital Defense Command, Major General Park Sung-jae as Acting Commander of the Army Special Warfare Command, and Major General Lee Kyung-min as Acting Director of the Defense Counterintelligence Command.
