Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Acting President Choi Sang-mok, blaming him for the anti-corruption agency’s failure to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol. “Acting President Choi Sang-mok should be held accountable for disrupting order and acts of insurrection.”

“The developments surrounding the issue of Yoon’s arrest are incomprehensible,” Lee said during a parliamentary session at the National Assembly on Jan. 6. He claimed that Choi’s failure to instruct the Presidential Security Service to cooperate with the warrant’s execution could be considered an “act of insurrection,” and hinted at filing charges against Choi for a " breach of duty.”

“The acting president, who should be responsible for maintaining order, appears instead to be disrupting it,” Lee said. He questioned why Choi did not take measures against the Presidential Security Service when they allegedly obstructed the warrant’s execution.

Lee stressed that the Presidential Security Service’s attempt to block Yoon’s arrest is “illegal” and that the government is responsible for “dismissing the head of security for such actions.” He added, “We have repeatedly urged the security service to cease their illegal behavior, but our calls have been ignored.”

Lee called the situation “another act of insurrection aimed at protecting personal interests through disorder” and added, “I believe that the acting president should be held accountable for disrupting order and committing acts of insurrection.”
