South Korea’s ruling People Power Party (PPP) floor leader Kweon Seong-dong reaffirmed on the 16th that the party’s official stance is to accept the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol.

Speaking at a press briefing at the National Assembly, Kweon was asked whether he believed all parties should acknowledge the court’s decision, regardless of the outcome. “I have publicly stated my willingness to accept the ruling, and Kwon Young-se, the PPP’s interim leader, also made it clear during a press conference on the 13th that he would respect the court’s decision,” he said.

Kweon added that Yoon had expressed a similar position during the final arguments in the impeachment trial. He criticized Democratic Party (DP) leader Lee Jae-myung for not explicitly committing to accepting the ruling, suggesting that his ambiguity could be an attempt to pressure the court.

When asked about the possibility of a joint statement from both ruling and opposition leaders affirming their commitment to accepting the decision, Kweon said, “We have already made our stance clear, but if the DP insists, we are open to issuing a joint message or holding a press conference to reaffirm our position.”
