Anguk Station on Subway Line 3 in Seoul, South Korea / News1

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it will temporarily shut down Anguk Station on Subway Line 3 when the Constitutional Court delivers its ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment trial. The city cited concerns over large crowds expected to gather near the Constitutional Court, which is located close to the station, on the day the ruling is handed down. While the court has concluded hearings in the case, it has yet to announce when it will issue its verdict.

City officials, along with fire and police authorities, will operate a Citizen Safety Task Force for three days—before, during, and after the ruling. During this period, subway stations at risk of overcrowding may be bypassed without stopping, or their entrances may be temporarily closed. City buses will skip stops or be rerouted in key areas, including Anguk Station, Gwanghwamun Intersection, Sejong-daero, Yeoui-daero, and Hannam-dong.

Officials will use closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras to monitor crowd density at major rally sites. Emergency medical clinics will be set up at Anguk Station, Cheonggye Plaza, Hannam-dong, and Yeouido. The city plans to deploy up to 1,300 personnel daily for crowd control and safety management. “We expect large-scale rallies before and after the ruling,” said a Seoul Metropolitan Government official, and stressed that the measures are necessary to ensure safety.

Legal experts anticipate that the Constitutional Court will announce the date of the impeachment ruling on March 17 or 18, with the verdict expected later this week on March 20 or 21.
