Manhyujeong Pavilion in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, a well-known filming location for the South Korean drama “Mr. Sunshine,” has been confirmed safe from recent wildfire damage.

The Korea Heritage Service (KHS) confirmed on March 26 that, after inspecting the area, it was found that Manhyujeong in Andong had not suffered damage from the wildfire, despite earlier reports suggesting it had been destroyed. “While some pine trees show signs of charring, there is no other significant damage,” the KHS said.

According to an official, about 40 personnel from Andong City, the Gyeongbuk Northern Heritage Care Center, and the fire department applied fire-resistant fabric to the pavilion’s wooden pillars and lower structures while spraying water around the surrounding garden.

Manhyujeong was built by Joseon-era scholar Kim Gye-haeng (1431–1517) as a retreat in his later years, with its name meaning “late rest.” Kim passed the state exam at 49, entered government service in his 50s, and retired at 71, returning to Andong. Nestled among scenic valleys and waterfalls, the pavilion is a designated cultural heritage site. In 2011, the entire surrounding landscape was recognized as the scenic site Manhyujeong Garden in Andong.

The site gained popularity after “Mr. Sunshine” featured a famous scene where Eugene Choi (Lee Byung-hun) tells Go Ae-shin (Kim Tae-ri), “Let’s do it. Love. With me.”
