President Yoon Suk-yeol will not attend the Constitutional Court’s ruling on his impeachment trial set for April 4, his lawyers announced on April 3.

Citing security concerns and the need to maintain order, Yoon’s legal team said in a statement: “President Yoon has decided not to attend the impeachment ruling on April 4, considering potential congestion, public order, and security issues.”
Lawmakers representing the National Assembly’s impeachment case, including Jung Chung-rae, chair of the legislation and judiciary committee, are expected to be present along with their legal team.
Yoon attended eight of the 11 impeachment hearings, first appearing at the third session on Jan. 21 and skipping only the ninth. However, for the final ruling, he will be represented solely by his lawyers.
Former Presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Park Geun-hye also did not attend their respective impeachment rulings.
The Constitutional Court will deliver its verdict at 11 a.m. on April 4. A ruling requires at least six of the eight justices to vote in favor for Yoon to be removed from office. If fewer than six support impeachment, he will resume his duties immediately.
