North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's entourage to his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Singapore for some reason includes Hyon Song-wol, a singer and the leader of the Samjiyon Orchestra who also holds a nominal party post.
Hyon used to be the leader of the Moranbong girl band supervised directly by Kim himself and has rumored to have been Kim's girlfriend. She was also a prominent figure in recent inter-Korean exchanges, leading the orchestra when it performed in Seoul.
It is not known why she has such a seemingly prominent role at the current summit.
Perhaps North Korea also intends to promote cultural exchanges with the U.S., but it is unclear whether she will be performing after the summit.
What is known is that she left the St. Regis Hotel with an entourage including several women who looked like members of her band in a minivan on Monday and returned three hours later.
She is believed to have inspected the Capella Hotel, the summit venue.
