For the first time, North Korean officials have been seen wearing badges with Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un’s face at an official event, signaling a new phase in his idolization.
Photos released by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) and the Rodong Sinmun from the second day of the 10th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea show all attending officials wearing badges featuring Kim Jong-un’s face on their chests.
This is the first time that a badge featuring Kim Jong-un’s portrait has been observed being worn within North Korea.
The portrait badge is a representative idolization item of the Kim family, which must be worn on the chest by everyone from ordinary citizens to the highest-ranking officials in North Korea.
The sight of the highest-ranking officials at the plenary meeting wearing badges with Kim Jong-un’s portrait is seen as a clear sign that the idolization of Kim Jong-un is now in full swing.
