How we bring wine to friends makes all the difference - like the distinction between service and hospitality, where service fulfills needs while hospitality creates meaningful connections. It’s the difference between being handed a glass of wine and being invited to share a story behind it. This is where Super Necessary begins.
Our journey started with a genuine passion for beverages, but it was during the pandemic that our connection with Korea blossomed through a unique wine club subscription here in Palo Alto, California. While restaurants were closed, we shared special wine allocations through subscriptions, connecting us with Korean members whose sincere appreciation for fine drinks became our bridge to something bigger.
During countless evenings sharing wines with our Korean friends, we heard a common story: while great wines are like works of art - born from exceptional fruit, terroir, and winemaking heritage - experiencing these masterpieces is as precious as encountering a work of fine art. However, they’ve become commoditized and often prohibitively expensive. Many felt that enjoying good wine meant spending too much, making wine seem inaccessible and intimidating.
We wanted to solve this challenge - to create a wine you could easily pick up at a convenience store for a picnic with friends, or at a market while shopping for a family dinner. A wine that’s perfectly balanced and ready to drink, yet maintains the highest standards of quality. Super Necessary was born from our desire to create a wine that friends could enjoy together that’s both approachable in price and rich in quality.
This vision comes to life through the perfect harmony of three essential elements: the expertise of master sommeliers who understand the finest nuances of wine, skilled winemakers who craft each bottle with precision, and exceptional fruit sourced from California’s prestigious Red Hills. The secret lies in the renowned Aiken soils - the same volcanic terroir that makes Screaming Eagle one of the world’s most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignons. This prized red volcanic soil series provides the perfect foundation for growing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, giving our wine its unique character and depth.
Seemingly always a topic of conversation, the provocative Super Necessary label was inspired by the playful ‘side-eye’ of a loving friend— and its name borrowed from the title of my personal playlist of cherished songs that regularly fill our restaurant space during service - a collection of dreamy indie hits oozing with sensual energy.
While you’ll find us in retail stores, each bottle carries the warmth of hospitality and the depth of wine expertise, making every glass an opportunity to experience something truly special.
This is Super Necessary - where every bottle tells a story worth sharing.
