Lee Joo-young, the granddaughter of one of South Korea’s chaebol families, has recently been accepted to a law school in the U.S. The 24-year-old influencer and fourth-generation chaebol, also known as Jules Lee, is the only daughter of Comtek CEO Lee Hae-chang, DL Group Chairman Lee Joon-yong’s third son. DL Group is a South Korean chemical and construction conglomerate.
Lee took to Instagram to announce her achievement on June 7. “It may have seemed like I was enjoying a glamorous influencer life in Korea for the past year, but in reality, I was busy studying for exams and preparing for law school,” she wrote. “All my hard work has paid off, and I’m back to being a student again with the news that I got accepted to Georgetown University Law Center on a scholarship.”
Lee shared her share of challenges while preparing for law school applications. “While working on donation projects and new ventures, I couldn’t focus all my time on the admissions process like I did in high school,” she said. “I would study right after I got off work but often felt guilty wondering if it was enough. To cope with this anxiety, I became more active and tried to make the most of every opportunity that came my way.”
“I couldn’t shake the feeling of not fitting in as I was away from my friends and was not part of a school or company for the first time, so the glamorous life wasn’t always fun,” she added. “But now that I have the goal of becoming a lawyer and the chance to return to school and challenge myself in a new field, I feel excited and hopeful again.”
Lee studied international business and marketing at Georgetown University, interned at the fashion magazine Vogue Korea, and later worked as a model for luxury brands such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel. She currently boasts 130,000 Instagram followers.
She made headlines after she was spotted hanging out with Jang Wonyoung, a member of K-pop group IVE. The two have shared photos of themselves enjoying meals together and doing flying yoga on their respective Instagram accounts.
