Chung Hae-chan, the 26-year-old son of Chung Yong-jin, chairman of Shinsegae Group, is reportedly participating in an internship at a renowned global asset management firm in New York, following a stint at a leading South Korean accounting firm.
According to industry sources, Hae-chan has been engaged in the “Summer Analyst Program” at Rockefeller Capital Management, located in New York, from June to August this year.
This program is a full-time, 10-week, in-person internship designed to give participants a firsthand experience of the company’s culture and environment while providing valuable networking opportunities. Rockefeller Capital Management, well-known as a financial firm associated with the Rockefeller family, is linked to the legacy of John D. Rockefeller, the American oil tycoon.
Prior to this, Chung participated in a summer internship last year at Samjong KPMG, one of South Korea’s four major accounting firms, where he was involved in financial advisory services.
Born in 1998, Chung studied hotel management at Cornell University, one of the Ivy League schools in the United States. In 2018, he also gained experience through an internship at the Westin Chosun Seoul, a hotel affiliated with the Shinsegae Group.
After enlisting in the South Korean military in 2021 and completing his service in May last year, Chung has been pursuing a graduate degree related to sports management and fitness industry at Indiana University since August 2023, following the conclusion of his internship at Samjong KPMG.
Meanwhile, Chung Yong-jin, the vice chairman of Shinsegae Group, has one son and one daughter from his previous marriage to actress Ko Hyun-jung. In 2011, he married Han Ji-hee, with whom he has fraternal twins, a boy, and a girl.
