The coronavirus lockdown has massively increased the time people spend watching TV, while many more people get their news from their computers than before the epidemic.
According to a poll of 5,010 adults released by the Korea Press Foundation on Wednesday, 94.8 percent of respondents watched TV this year, up 3.2 percentage points from last year. Some 85 percent watch news on TV, up 2.2 percentage points.
The increase is particularly marked among 20- and 30-somethings, who tend to use mobile devices rather than watch TV to get their news and enjoy other entertainment.
Among those in their 30s the figure for watching TV rose from 76.9 percent to 82.9 percent and among those in their 20s from 87 percent to 93.4 percent.
Stuck at home with their big screens, fewer people watched news on their phone, down 1.7 percentage points at 77.9 percent. Noticeably, 61.5 percent of 20-somethings said they get their news on TV, up a whopping 10 percentage points.
