Koreans are not eating enough fruit and vegetables and the trend is becoming more pronounced among children.

According to a survey by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, only a quarter or 25.5 percent of Koreans consume more than 500 g of fruit and vegetables a day.

The proportion has fallen more than 10 percentage points over the last decade. It peaked at a healthy 38.6 percent in 2015 but plunged to 28.1 percent by 2019.

The decline was particularly apparent among young people. Only 12.5 percent of children aged six to nine ate more than 500 g of fruit and vegetables a day, rising to just 15.4 percent among teens and 12.5 percent among young adults aged 19 to 29.

Older people were more health-conscious. The proportion rose to 44.2 percent of people in their 50s and 45.3 percent among those in their 60s.
