“Gwanghwamun Food Market,” a night market, is opening near Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul.
The night market will be permanently open every Wednesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. beginning this May until next May at Sejong-ro Park near Gwanghwamun Square, announced the Seoul Metropolitan Government on Feb. 18.
The Gwanghwamun Food Market returns as the newer version of the existing ‘Hangang Moonlight Market’. Seoul plans to turn the place into a Korean food market where a range of K-foods can be tasted. Various pop-up stores will be organized for each season to provide a new night-time attraction in the city for citizens and diverse sales channels for small businesses.
The city will first openly recruit a contractor to manage the food market from next month to December. Bidders must be registered as event agencies or advertising agencies on Korea ON-line E-Procurement System (KONEPS), and detailed qualifications and announcements can be found on the KONEPS website. The application must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Feb. 27th. “We plan to raise the quality of Seoul’s night market to a higher level through the market. By successfully hosting the Gwanghwamun food market, we hope to develop Gwanghwamun into Seoul’s representative culinary tourist attraction,” said Choi Sun-hye, an officer of small enterprises in Seoul.
