September has finally arrived, bringing cooler breezes after sweltering summer heat. For those eager to enjoy autumn blooms, the Korea Tourism Organization has highlighted three must-visit destinations this month.

Bulgapsa Temple

Bulgapsa Temple in Yeonggwang, South Jeolla Province, is a historic site established during the early days of Buddhism in Korea’s Baekje kingdom. In September, this ancient temple draws many visitors eager to see its vibrant red spider lilies that fill the lush forest. The annual Yeonggwang Bulgapsan Spider Lily Festival will run from Sept. 13 to 22 this year, showcasing the flowers in full bloom.

Yongcheonsa Temple

Yongcheonsa Temple in Hampyeong, South Jeolla Province, is surrounded by a vast flower park with over 600,000 square meters of red spider lilies. The vibrant scenery of Gwangam Reservoir and the flower park greets visitors before they enter the temple grounds. Inside, the picturesque path, red bridge, Four Heavenly Kings Gate, and Daeungjeon Hall add to the charm.

The 25th Hampyeong Moak Mountain Spider Lily Festival runs from Sept. 12 to 15. Admission is free, and on-site parking is available. Seonunsa Temple

Seonunsa Temple in Gochang, North Jeolla Province, is a must-see destination in September. After passing through the Seonunsan Ecological Forest, visitors are welcomed by blooming red spider lilies surrounding the temple, making it a top spot for autumn outings. The gentle trail through the forest is perfect for leisurely walks among the flowers. Visitors can also enjoy another beautiful display of spider lilies by Seonuncheon Stream.
