“‘Gyeongseong Creature’ Season 2 intertwines the past and present, using the creature as a bridge. I aimed to provoke thought about the enduring remnants that still exist,” said director Chung Dong-yoon at a press conference held at Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan on Sept. 25. Main cast members Park Seo-jun, Han So-hee, Lee Mu-saeng, and Bae Hyeon-seong also shared their insights about their roles and the narrative depth of the series.
The season spans from 1945 Gyeongseong to modern Seoul, exploring complex character fates. Chung described it as a gripping mix of historical drama and romance, saying, “This season jumps through time with a faster-paced narrative, distinguishing it from Season 1 while connecting the two stories in interesting ways.”
Park Seo-jun returns as Jang Ho-jae, a character similar to Jang Tae-sang from Season 1. “The action is much more spectacular this time. With a different setting, the overall feel is enhanced, making it visually captivating,” Park said.
Han So-hee plays Yoon Chae-ok, a character who has lived since the past, grappling with the burden of not aging or dying since her tumultuous life in Gyeongseong. “I aimed to convey the emotional journey of a character who has lived in solitude, focusing on how Chae-ok emotionally responds to her reunion with Ho-jae,” she shared.
New characters include Lee Mu-saeng as secret elite agent Captain Kuroko. He shared, “I was captivated by the dynamic storytelling and intense pacing. Viewers can look forward to thrilling confrontations.” Bae Hyeon-seong, portraying Seung-jo, added, “I play a ruthless character who can manipulate tentacles at will. Expect to see a unique and captivating side of me.”
Reflecting on deeper themes, Chung said, “I wanted to share with the world that forgiveness and forgetfulness are different. Despite 79 years having passed, people still commit horrific acts for personal gain. We must confront these realities without compromise.”
Chung concluded, “The imagery of breaking through a dark tunnel into the light remains vivid in my mind, and I hope that emotion resonates with the audience.”
The series is set to premiere on Netflix on Sept. 27.
